{"id":979,"date":"2018-03-23T20:12:28","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T19:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=979"},"modified":"2018-03-23T20:12:28","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T19:12:28","slug":"bst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=979","title":{"rendered":"BST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>In spite of Monday\u2019s best efforts to make us throw in the towel and acknowledge the fact that we may never be warm again, Tuesday heralded the start of Spring, according to our calendar at least, if not the mercury.\u00a0 However, Wednesday was proof that if we persist we might just get to wear shorts this year.\u00a0 Thursday was just a bit ordinary but noticeably warmer than earlier in the week and this weekend, whilst we have a 90% chance of precipitation (rain rather than snow, we hope), the Celsius readings are due to reach double figures and stay there for a bit.\u00a0 Next week seems to be promising 100% chance of light rain every day and with that we will swiftly move into April, and her showers\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>British Summer Time.\u00a0 This Sunday, however, we get less sleep as the clocks \u2018Spring\u2019 forward and we welcome Summer Time, which will allow us to watch all the rain fall in clearer daylight, for longer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ben Stokes Ton.\u00a0 No, not even Ben Stokes two.\u00a0 The lazarine return of our favourite nightclubber was nothing to shout about.\u00a0 But then he wasn\u2019t alone.\u00a0 The paddling of ducks contained 5 members \u2013 Root, Bairstow, Moeen, Broad and, of course, Stokes \u2013 no acknowledged batsmen in there obviously.\u00a0 Bring on plenty more rain delays I say \u2013 lovely weather for ducks!<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin Security Turmoil.\u00a0 Ledger Nano S was a supposedly untamperable hardware wallet to keep your crypto-currency millions safe.\u00a0 Until it was tampered with by a young British lad, four months ago. \u00a0Apparently they\u2019ve fixed it but it does ask quite a few questions.\u00a0 Just checked the cash in my jeans pocket \u2013 untampered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But Seriously Though.\u00a0 Facebook, Google, all of you, we all know you harvest our data and we willingly sign up to this in return for convenience, interaction, socialising and the rest.\u00a0 Just try and keep it safe-ish, would you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big Supplier Taxed.\u00a0 So, we\u2019re not best pals with big booze retailers, for reasons that should be obvious.\u00a0 As suggested last week, we feel little sympathy for Conviviality who happen to own two of the biggest alcohol wholesalers, Bibendum and Matthew Clark, and also, on the high street, own Wine Rack and Bargain Booze.\u00a0 The story goes that last week they issued their second profit warning in a week, when they \u2018discovered\u2019 a \u00a330 million tax bill due for payment at the end of the month.\u00a0 \u00a330 million.\u00a0 Where was that letter hiding and who was meant to open it?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, they have now released another profit warning and are looking to raise not \u00a330 million but \u00a3125 million (!) \u2013 they need\u00a0 cash to resolve overdue payments with creditors, to settle payments with tax authorities, to repay a \u00a330 million revolving credit facility and provide enough capital headroom to allow it to recapitalise the business.\u00a0 So, within a week they have quadrupled their funding requirements, which to us looks like a business doomed.\u00a0 Control that Schadenfreude, Alex.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big Spirits Tasting.\u00a0 Well, for the most part it\u2019ll be Gin actually.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been trying to get a tasting like this off the ground for a while now and finally we have found someone willing to indulge us.<\/p>\n<p>Step forward Alexander, superstar cocktail maker and world class gin expert at Sacred, our new gin supplier from Highgate.\u00a0 Now, as mentioned before, we are stocking his original Gin, his Juniper Gin and his Cardamom Gin and also his English Peated Whisky.\u00a0 So, we thought it would be a nice idea to get him in to do a tasting for us and, of course, you.\u00a0 By all accounts he\u2019ll show us a few of his different styles of Gin and some Vermouth, mention was also made of Negroni and also some sort of summer cup \u2013 suffice to say, an evening will be had!<\/p>\n<p><strong>THURSDAY 24<sup>TH<\/sup> MAY AT 8PM &#8211; \u00a318.99<\/strong> because we just love it and it\u2019s the \u2018new\u2019 vintage.\u00a0 Light straw in colour with a toasty honey nose.\u00a0 Citrus flavours, predominantly lime, couple up nicely with excellent fresh acidity and a long clean finish and frankly it\u2019s Riesling with age, what\u2019s not to like?<\/p>\n<p>For the red fans we\u2019ll open an old favourite <strong>Casal de Paula 2015, Ribeiro, Spain &#8211;
