{"id":946,"date":"2017-12-22T14:20:52","date_gmt":"2017-12-22T13:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=946"},"modified":"2017-12-22T14:20:52","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T13:20:52","slug":"meursault-barolo-and-santa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=946","title":{"rendered":"Meursault, Barolo and Santa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>And now we\u2019re a week closer.\u00a0 And now we have significantly less wine here than we did seven days ago.\u00a0 Our special Christmas Gift Case has been changed three times this week\u00a0 as we ran out of different wines and, frankly, we\u2019ve never known it to be so popular \u2013 over the next few days I believe a number of you will be enjoying something along the lines of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Moutard \u2018Grand Cuv\u00e9e Champagne<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>M &amp; B Talmard Macon Uchizy 2015 \u2013 a delicious white burgundy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wairau River Pinot Gris 2016 \u2013 fabulous with your boxing day ham<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ch\u00e2teau des Demoiselles 2010 \u2013 Bordeaux? From a stellar vintage? For Christmas?\u00a0 Well, if you\u2019re sure\u2026.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Faiveley Mercurey \u2018La Framboisi\u00e8re\u2019 2015 \u2013 as above, but Burgundy instead of Bordeaux<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Emilio Moro 2015 \u2013 our old favourite from Ribera del Duero<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sounds good to me.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, everything is ticking along quite nicely.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Opening batsmen<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We lost \u2018The Ashes\u2019 earlier in the week, which takes the pressure off trying to watch the highlights surreptitiously over breakfast with your in-laws.\u00a0 If there are any Arsenal fans out there(?) they can also have a very relaxed time over the festive period \u2013 a game tonight and then nothing until next Thursday \u2013 not sure how Arsene swung this but it should stop him bemoaning an overcrowded fixture card, \u00a0we\u2019ll see!\u00a0 Toys\u2019R\u2019Us seems to be facing an uphill struggle, not for the first time I believe, Apple admit slowing down older models of the iphone and Uber will finish the year as a cab company and not an \u201cinformation society service\u201d \u2013 you gotta love big business.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Open to new experiences<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Foodwise, we\u2019ve mainly been sponsored by Pret this week and can confirm that their Christmas sandwich is a sumptuous as ever, although Alex still reckons the Tesco Christmas Special that he tried earlier in the \u2018season\u2019 ie late November is his favourite and Wayne has plenty of time for the Waitrose effort.\u00a0 Neither of us are convinced of the need for vegetarian Christmas sandwiches but that may have a little to do with us not being meat dodgers!<\/p>\n<p>Whilst we are always keen try a Christmas sarnie we have been quite shocked by the array of Christmas snacks available in the local cooperative down the road.\u00a0 By snacks we really mean crisps:\u00a0 <em>Honey Roast Ham Crackers<\/em> didn\u2019t seem too off the wall but then we spotted <em>Pigs in Blankets Tortilla Rolls<\/em>, we all like sausage wrapped in bacon but are not convinced of the need to tortill-ise and roll them.<\/p>\n<p>However, we could never have predicted the next two flavours\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Step up <em>Gingerbread Tortilla Rolls<\/em> and last but not least, <em>Sparkling Prosecco Bubbles<\/em>!\u00a0 These are apparently <em>light and crispy potato snacks that pop in your mouth, with a hint of fizz flavour<\/em>!\u00a0 What?\u00a0 That\u2019s not even English &#8211; since when is fizz a flavour?\u00a0 Oh.\u00a0 I just got it.\u00a0 Jumping on the Prosecco bandwagon, very well done\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In other news, Wayne bought the most delicious Truffle flavour crisps from Brindisa the other day that were genuinely the Donqui\u2019s Jotes!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Opening hours<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Today \u2013 11am until 8pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> &#8211; Wednesday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> \u2013 CLOSED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday 4<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 Back to normal\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Opening bottles<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a final bid to fill your Christmas dining tables with oodles of deliciousness and as a reward for those of you who have stuck it out at work until the last knockings we shall be opening:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrick Javillier Meursault <em>\u2018Les Clousots\u2019<\/em> 2011 &#8211; \u00a345.00<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To quote our burgundy obsessed pal Jack: <em>Pat Jav is a legend and his 2011s are showing really well.\u00a0 Clousots is a blend of Les Clous and Crousots.\u00a0 Patrick likes to blend sites to achieve a balanced wine.\u00a0 Great texture in these wines, classic Meursault.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo 2012 &#8211; \u00a333.00<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jack knows less about Italy so we had to write our own notes here: <em>lovely red cranberry and cedar wood notes and an elegant palate that has lovely tension between fruit and tannin \u2013 if you don\u2019t want it we\u2019ll have it\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chateau Violet Sauternes 2007 -\u00a314.99<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We were dead chuffed when we came across this, even more so once we had some in glass!\u00a0 This delicious pudding wine is the classic sauternes blend of Semillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc from a wonderful vintage. \u00a0A beautiful golden colour with aromas of pineapple cubes, honey and orange peel.\u00a0 The palate is sweet, as you\u2019d expect, but not cloyingly so and has a lovely freshness about it.\u00a0 Just hitting its stride at 10 years of age, we feel it\u2019s a bit of a bargain.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, on the tasting table we already have open the <strong>Krohn LBV 2011 &#8211;
