{"id":916,"date":"2017-09-29T12:54:49","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T11:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=916"},"modified":"2017-09-29T12:54:49","modified_gmt":"2017-09-29T11:54:49","slug":"cheese-wine-sherry-gin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=916","title":{"rendered":"Cheese, Wine, Sherry, Gin&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s back.\u00a0 He\u2019s reinvigorated.\u00a0 He\u2019s 90% fish and 10% Sherry.\u00a0 He\u2019s tanned.\u00a0 He\u2019s irritatingly relaxed.\u00a0 He\u2019s ready for Christmas even though he\u2019s still wearing shorts whilst sweeping up crispy autumnal leaf fall.\u00a0 He is, frankly, quite exhausting.<\/p>\n<p>And he\u2019s instituted some new shop rules \u2013 a couple of weeks of good, healthy living and relaxation has turned him proper bossy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No sausage rolls \u2013 not good for us apparently, not even as part of a packed luncheon<\/li>\n<li>No fighting outside Bristol nightclubs \u2013 no good for us but in a different way<\/li>\n<li>No scrummaging or tackling \u2013 too dangerous and thus ends shop rugby as we know it<\/li>\n<li>No testing nuclear weapons \u2013 put\u2019s everyone on edge and fighter planes in the sky<\/li>\n<li>No more dealings with Boeing<\/li>\n<li>No more Hugh Hefner \u2013 not altogether sure what he means by that<\/li>\n<li>No more trips on Ryanair \u2013 not enough flights and not enough consequential compensation<\/li>\n<li>No more tweeting about taking a knee during the national anthem<\/li>\n<li>No more \u2018aid\u2019 packages from Russia<\/li>\n<li>No more discussion of October abstaining<\/li>\n<li>No more heroes<\/li>\n<li>No more Shakespearoes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At which point I stopped listening as he now seemed to be busying himself with Spotify\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s good to have him back, really.\u00a0 When Wayne finishes his summer holidays it means it is eyes down and full steam ahead towards Christmas, hold onto your hats.\u00a0 We\u2019ve started to order some of the Christmas wines, ready for delivery next month I suspect and we\u2019ve been taking a leisurely look at our spirits \u2013 Rhubarb Gin?\u00a0 Tequila?\u00a0 Any interest out there, or is it just us?<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and \u2018normal\u2019 Gin too.<\/p>\n<p>Bizarre as it may seem, given the current juniper haze that has us all engulfed, we are struggling to find a Gin to replace Dodd\u2019s.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t have to be the same as Dodd\u2019s, it just needs to be different from our current offering of Hepple, Little Bird, Dutch Courage and Monkey 47.\u00a0 Local would be good, top quality and flavoursome is an absolute must, as is interesting.\u00a0 Any thoughts?\u00a0 We\u2019ve had a number of suggestions from all sorts of far-flung places but have now taken the view that if people are consistently asking for one particular brand, then that\u2019s the one we should look at more closely.<\/p>\n<p>So if anyone has any suggestions, drop us a line and we\u2019ll have a butchers!<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, not a huge amount to report on the home front his week.\u00a0 Wayne\u2019s return means that our instore tastings start up once more and Wine School kicks off a new term next week with a full classroom of eager oenophiles, followed swiftly by our first autumn <strong>Wine &amp; Cheese Tasting on the evening of Thursday 5<sup>th<\/sup> October at 8pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whilst Wine School is fully booked, we do still have 4 seats available for the Thursday evening tasting of all things good in the cheese and wine world.\u00a0 If you fancy it, drops us a line or drop in \u2013 <strong>it\u2019s \u00a320 per person, bookable in advance<\/strong>, and is always a very fulfilling and satisfying evening!<\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t wait for next week to have your tastebuds tantalised, we will, as is our weekend wont, be opening a red and a white this evening and all through tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>White wine will be represented by an old favourite of ours &#8211; <strong>De Wetshof Estate \u2018Lesca\u2019 Chardonnay 2016, &#8211; \u00a314.99.\u00a0 <\/strong>From Robertson in South Africa, and named after Danie de Wet\u2019s wife, this is a lightly wooded Chardonnay, exuding lively aromas of citrus, green apple and butterscotch on the nose.\u00a0 With the elegance and intensity of great white Burgundy, it has a complex, racy palate of lemon, peach and ripe apple flavours with nutty and mineral notes.\u00a0 Pork stuffed with prunes was the winery recommendation and we won\u2019t argue with that.<\/p>\n<p>The red representative, maintaining our theme of Burgundy grapes being used elsewhere, is going to be <strong>Southern Dawn Pinot Noir 2013 &#8211; \u00a314.49<\/strong>, from Marlborough, New Zealand.\u00a0 I could give you all the guff about the soil in the vineyards, the angle of the slope the vines are planted on, and the winemakers collection of 19th century corkscrews, but none of that is really relevant.\u00a0 We sell this wine because we think it tastes brilliant: light with red cherry fruit character and a fresh finish.\u00a0 I\u2019ve no idea if he has a corkscrew collection but am certain he doesn\u2019t use it for this!<\/p>\n<p>No more from us this week \u2013 those are the new rules!<\/p>\n<p>Wayne &amp;
