{"id":774,"date":"2016-09-23T13:09:37","date_gmt":"2016-09-23T12:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=774"},"modified":"2016-09-23T13:09:37","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T12:09:37","slug":"where-were-you-when-kennedy-was-shot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=774","title":{"rendered":"Where were you when Kennedy was shot?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been another tumultuous week in what has already been a tumultuous year.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst many of us still come to terms with the reality that Bowie, Rickman, Corbett or Prince will never entertain us again, there has now been even more salt thrown into a very wounded and cornered 2016, with the revelation that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are getting divorced.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like a <em>\u2018where were you when Kennedy was shot?\u2019<\/em> scenario, as all of us will have the time that we first read it on TMZ (7:28 AM PDT on 20\/09\/2016 or 3:28 PM London time, roughly) etched into our memories for all eternity.\u00a0 Sad days, I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll agree.<\/p>\n<p>As so often happens with events of such magnitude, whilst the main news focuses around the principal protagonists and the world and his dog give ill-informed opinions about people they have never met, it is the rippling shockwaves that are fascinating to observe and less reported.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick round up of events since Tuesday afternoon that have sent us reeling and <u>definitely<\/u> have only happened as a result of this split:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mary Berry quits The Great British Bake Off, citing loyalty as a key factor<\/li>\n<li>At Madison Square Garden, Adele performs \u2018two hours of misery\u2019 for \u2018the elephant in the room\u2019 which is not a terribly nice way to refer to your audience<\/li>\n<li>Mark Zuckerberg pledges $3 billion to cure everything, forever<\/li>\n<li>Majestic Wines issued a <em>significant<\/em> profit warning, possibly from nerves at the stack of magnums of Miraval Rose they still have to shift<\/li>\n<li>Lionel Messi suffers a \u2018groin strain\u2019 and needs at least three weeks to recover from everything that has happened<\/li>\n<li>Ditto Harry Kane, although he may need longer to get over it all<\/li>\n<li>MI6 to recruit 1,000 new staff \u2013 it seems Mr &amp; Mrs Smith have left the building<\/li>\n<li>Fancy Bears release files stating they have no files relating to Mr Pitt using a TUE<\/li>\n<li>Donald Trump offends a vast number of people \u2013 although we\u2019re not completely sure this has anything to do with Jolie-Pitt<\/li>\n<li>Park Vintners Sparkling Wine &amp; Champagne Tasting on Thursday 1<sup>st<\/sup> December quickly sells out<\/li>\n<li>Ditto Wine &amp; Cheese Tastings on Thursday 10<sup>th<\/sup> November\/7<sup>th<\/sup> December<\/li>\n<li>Whisky tasting also gaining momentum<\/li>\n<li>The weather got colder and it got darker earlier&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, now you know.\u00a0 On the upside, and Majestic can take succour from this too, we still have a little of the <strong>Miraval C<\/strong><strong>\u00f4<\/strong><strong>tes de Provence Rose 2015<\/strong>, retailing at <strong>\u00a320.99<\/strong>.\u00a0 Not bad for a piece of history, the last vintage that Brad and Angelina crushed together!<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, little else to report.<\/p>\n<p>However, we would love for you to give us your vote in the <em>Time Out Love London Awards.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Last year, we were lucky enough to win as your favourite shop in Wimbledon. \u00a0We\u2019d really like to win again, so if we could persuade you to nominate us on this link we\u2019d be really grateful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/lovelondonawards#\/nominate\/wimbledon\/shops\">http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/lovelondonawards#\/nominate\/wimbledon\/shops<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As hinted at earlier, our tasting calendar is getting booked up, the list of upcoming events being<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> October at 8pm &#8211; \u00a320 <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">per person<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">WINE &amp; CHEESE TASTING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">As above!<\/span><\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SOLD OUT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> November at 8pm \u2013 \u00a320 per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHISKY MASTERCLASS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Our first ever whisky tasting.\u00a0 Ed will be the talent, taking us on a virtual tour of Scotland by the power of whisky!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I saw Ed yesterday, as he dropped off some <strong>Hibiki Harmony Japanese Whisky<\/strong>, and we firmed up a bit our selection for the night.\u00a0 Without giving too much away, we will have something from Arran, something Macallan, something from the lower Highlands, an Islay, and a couple of other things.\u00a0 It\u2019s all about doing a bit of a tour of the regions and styles with a few different age statements in there.\u00a0 I have to say, when he left, I was a bit sad that I\u2019ve got to wait until the end of November for this!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Thursday 1<sup>st<\/sup> December <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">at 8pm &#8211; \u00a320<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"> per person<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">CHRISTMAS WINE &amp; CHEESE TASTING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">We\u2019ll be reviewing our year in cheese and wine and make a selection worthy of a Christmas cheeseboard.\u00a0 Will Stilton be there?\u00a0 Port?\u00a0 Stinking Bishop?\u00a0 Who knows\u2026?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SOLD OUT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However<strong>, <\/strong>if your tasting needs are more immediate, why not come and taste the wines I\u2019ve got open for tonight and tomorrow?<\/p>\n<p>The white is going to be a wine that we sell over and over again but never seem to use on tastings.\u00a0 It\u2019s our best selling white burgundy and we call it <strong>Macon Charnay R\u00e9serve Personnelle 2015, Burgundy, France &#8211; \u00a311.99.\u00a0 <\/strong>Charnay is one of the smallest of the Macon Villages, also renowned as one of the best.\u00a0 This wine, made by Samantha Bailey, a British winemaker, has enticing orchard fruit aromas (nectarine or Cox\u2019s apple maybe) and a ripe, textured and full citrusy palate with a lingering finish.<\/p>\n<p>Representing red interests will be another top seller that rarely takes its cork out in the shop<strong>, <\/strong><strong>The Crusher Pinot Noir 2014, Clarksburg, California, USA &#8211; \u00a314.49<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBone Crusher, spine crusher, ball crusher \u2013 I don\u2019t care which part of my body it crushes but these are just the kind of wines we want at our show.\u00a0 The audience love them!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oz Clarke, Three Wine Men<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Not sure how to follow that\u2026 this is definitely one of those wines everyone tells their friends to buy.\u00a0 We liked it when we bought it but it\u2019s taken on a life of its own now!<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s it from us for this week.\u00a0 Come and taste some wine, taste a few spirits if you fancy, sign up for a tasting or just pop in for a chat about how your life will never be the same again, post-brangelina (with a small b now&#8230;)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers, It\u2019s been another tumultuous week in what has already been a tumultuous year.
