{"id":772,"date":"2016-09-17T13:54:34","date_gmt":"2016-09-17T12:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=772"},"modified":"2016-09-17T13:54:34","modified_gmt":"2016-09-17T12:54:34","slug":"a-variety-of-tastings-for-you-to-join-in-with-to-make-the-long-nights-shorter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=772","title":{"rendered":"A variety of tastings for you to join in with, to make the long nights shorter."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>And so life picks up its pace as we shift back to normality.\u00a0 Even the littlest of kids are now back at school.\u00a0 The lucky amongst us, those who don\u2019t have kids of any size or whose progeny have already fled the nest, are benefitting from some exotic September sunshine for a fraction of the cost of exotic August sunshine.\u00a0 Today sees the potentially permanent return of drizzle and grey skies, an antidote to the barmy weather of the last few days and a signal that autumn will soon be upon us.\u00a0 Pretty soon we\u2019ll be packing away the shorts, boxing up the Ros\u00e9 wines and turning the lights on earlier.<\/p>\n<p>So, how are we going to cope with this change in the seasons?\u00a0 Well, first up, we\u2019re going to start drinking red wine again as we reacquaint ourselves with tannins and structure.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to start casseroling, slow cooking, pot-roasting and stop cooking outside for a while.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to remember how delicious Port is, and remember why we don\u2019t drink it in a heatwave.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to look beyond the delights of gin and rediscover the ethereal pleasures of whisky and rum.\u00a0 And we\u2019re going to thoroughly enjoy ourselves &#8211; got it!<\/p>\n<p>In order to fruitfully fill the time between now and Christmas we\u2019ve set up a variety of tastings for you to join in with, to make the long nights shorter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> October at 8pm &#8211; \u00a320 <\/strong><strong>per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WINE &amp; CHEESE TASTING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>As above!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> November at 8pm \u2013 \u00a320 per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHISKY MASTERCLASS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Our first ever whisky tasting.\u00a0 Ed will be the talent, taking us on a virtual tour of Scotland by the power of whisky!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday 1<sup>st<\/sup> December <\/strong><strong>at 8pm &#8211; \u00a330 per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SPARKLING WINE &amp; CHAMPAGNE TASTING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Bubbly on the first day of Christmas, that\u2019s what my truelove should send to me, not some random partridge gift\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday 7<sup>th<\/sup> December at 8pm &#8211; \u00a320<\/strong><strong> per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CHRISTMAS WINE &amp; CHEESE TASTING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019ll be reviewing our year in cheese and wine and make a selection worthy of a Christmas cheeseboard.\u00a0 Will Stilton be there?\u00a0 Port?\u00a0 Stinking Bishop?\u00a0 Who knows\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>All these events take place here in the shop, starting at 8pm and spaces are limited \u2013 first come, first served!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may have noticed our failure to critique current affairs and sport this week.\u00a0 Not for want of trying, we were finding it slightly difficult to know where to start. \u00a0In a world where more column inch has been devoted to Bake Off moving house than the news that the one person capable of stopping the Trump march on the White House is really not very well at all, I\u2019m not sure what to say. \u00a0\u00a0In sport, the Paralympians are astonishing, the cycling is over and the football is still a bit of a sideshow, although Leicester set off in pursuit of the Champions League Trophy in no uncertain terms.<\/p>\n<p>Not sure really what to taste this weekend \u2013 the sun might shine, it might be muggy like last Saturday, or it could just be grim.\u00a0 So I\u2019m going to hedge my bets with a light white and a heavier red.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Paddler Riesling 2012, Marlborough, NZ &#8211; \u00a312.99<\/strong> &#8211; From a single vineyard in the Blind River sub-division of Marlborough, this is a cracking Riesling, and a little bit of age has fleshed out the palate nicely. \u00a0Fruit forward in style, with homemade lemonade and honeysuckle aromas, the palate is fresh and racy with a flinty minerality and lemon\/lime notes and a bit of sweetness to balance that racy acidity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Novas Gran Reserva Syrah Mourvedre 2013, Cachapoal, Chile &#8211;
