{"id":636,"date":"2015-09-11T14:20:36","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T13:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=636"},"modified":"2015-09-11T14:24:32","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T13:24:32","slug":"my-daughter-says-school-is-sooo-boooring-but-she-hasnt-tried-wine-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=636","title":{"rendered":"My daughter says school is sooo boooring but she hasn\u2019t tried wine school!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>As I write this in the sultry Thursday evening sunlight I find it difficult to see much wrong with the world.\u00a0 This I find extremely vexing because it is a very rare day that I am unable to see 6 or 7 things \u2018wrong with the world\u2019 and I am worried if my \u2018WwtW\u2019 radar needs re-calibrating.<\/p>\n<p>To continue.\u00a0 There\u2019s not too much wrong tonight in Wimbledon Park \u2013 we\u2019ve not been evacuated from burning planes in Las Vegas, not had our LinkedIn photo commented upon or been shamed and outed by the Commons Expenses Watchdog as non-payers of expenses.<\/p>\n<p>In truth, there is actually one thing wrong with WP this evening \u2013 none of you are here!\u00a0 I believe this sultry sunshine has got you all standing outside wine bars in the city or by the river, rather than rushing home to your loved ones, and of course, your wine shop!<\/p>\n<p>So how can I incentivise you to come home and not go to the pub over the next few weeks?<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PLAN A<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>(For the purpose of this plan, the word \u2018all\u2019 doesn\u2019t refer to everyone, just to those who like the things to which we are referring)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We all love the pub.\u00a0 We all love the rugby, especially International rugby, especially the World Cup.\u00a0 We all love beer.\u00a0 We all love going to the pub, drinking beer whilst watching the Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>However, a potential glitch has occurred regarding the viewing of the England matches \u2013 they are all prime time Friday or Saturday evening&#8230; not the easiest time to get a seat in the pub even without world class sport going on.\u00a0 Plus, we all hate queuing, whether for drinks or for the loo&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>So, how about bringing the pub to your house?<\/p>\n<p>Become the Landlord of your Living Room by getting yourself a 10 litre minipin of either, <strong>Sambrook\u2019s Wandle, Sambrook\u2019s Junction <\/strong>or<strong> Sambrook\u2019s Pumphouse<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 The minipin is racked bright (without sediment) so that it can be served immediately.\u00a0 The shelf life on racked bright beer is typically 7 days unopened and 3 days from opening.\u00a0 Put it on a table in the corner and you have the best part of 18 pints to get through during the match.\u00a0 And you shouldn\u2019t need to queue.<\/p>\n<p>Prices for the pins are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wandle Minipin &#8211; but don&#8217;t stop trying<\/em> (Miss Moneypenny &#8211; Dr. No)<\/p>\n<p>Through no fault of my own, it seems I have a quick Bollinger offer for you \u2013 maybe something to do with Mr Bond\u2019s imminent arrival on the big screen quaffing it.\u00a0 Anyway, just for this weekend, I am reducing the price of <strong>Bollinger Special Cuv\u00e9e <\/strong>to <strong>\u00a340 per bottle<\/strong>.\u00a0 Normally I sell it for \u00a345 and it will still be \u00a3200 if you buy 6 bottles (\u00a333.33 per bt), but if you just fancy a single bottle, <strong>starting Friday 11<sup>th<\/sup> at 11am through until Saturday 12<sup>th<\/sup> at 8pm, that\u2019s the deal!\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PLAN C<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Power of Wayne<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The usual practice is that when I go on holiday Wayne drains the bank account in pursuit of fine wine and fun.\u00a0 The fine wine mostly ends up on the shelves in the shop and I find it best not to ask about the fun.\u00a0 It seems though, even when he\u2019s not here, he still gets up to his tricks\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week I received a delivery of 12 bottles of <strong>Principe Corsini Le Corti Chianti Classico Riserva Cortevecchia DOCG 1997.\u00a0 <\/strong>This is a wine that we used to sell when we worked in Clapham, is a wine that our suppliers, the main importers, ran out of before we even opened here, so really is a wine I assumed was for the history books.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly not, because it\u2019s here, I don\u2019t know where he found it and cannot find out until he stops sunning himself a few time-zones east of here.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s on the shelf for <strong>\u00a330.99<\/strong> \u2013 1997 was a very good vintage in Tuscany and this is a very good wine from that vintage.\u00a0 I just need to sell it all before he gets back in case he had other plans for it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PLAN D<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>My daughter says school is sooo boooring but she hasn\u2019t tried wine school!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And quite right too, because she\u2019s only nine.<\/p>\n<p>You, however, can.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term starts next Wednesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/strong>, then for the following 5 more weeks.\u00a0 It costs <strong>\u00a3150 per person <\/strong>and you\u2019ll taste masses of different wines from all over.<\/p>\n<p>No children allowed.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>AND IF NONE OF THESE PLANS WORK&#8230;.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How about popping in after work and tasting some wine?\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a couple of wines from the d\u2019Oc: <strong>Domaine de Vedilhan Viognier 2014 &#8211; \u00a38.99<\/strong> and <strong>Le Malbec 2013 &#8211; \u00a310.99, <\/strong>both delicious in sunshine or rain and frankly, if they\u2019re good enough for the Doc, they must be good enough for us!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>DIARY PLAN<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A few of you have been asking about Wine &amp; Cheese \u2013 we will confirm dates next week.<\/p>\n<p>We will be tasting a lot of sherry here in the shop over the next two weeks though, which should be fun \u2013 we\u2019ll let you know more after we\u2019ve seen our Sherry people on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In fact we\u2019re doing quite a bit of offsite tasting in weeks to come, which means that we will be opening late <strong>Monday 14<sup>th<\/sup>, Wednesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> and Thursday 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u2026<\/strong> we\u2019ll be back by 4pm, at the latest, ideally before\u2026<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it from us, time for some Bolli!<\/p>\n<p>Wayne &amp;
