{"id":43,"date":"2012-05-18T13:28:17","date_gmt":"2012-05-18T13:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=43"},"modified":"2012-05-28T18:03:36","modified_gmt":"2012-05-28T17:03:36","slug":"wine-and-cheese-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=43","title":{"rendered":"Wine and Cheese Tasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It\u2019s been a bad week for Queens. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Donna Summer, Queen of Disco, hung up her crown yesterday, aged 63 \u2013 Love to Love You Baby.<\/p>\n<p>Sofia, Queen of Spain, has cancelled her plans to visit the UK to mark the Jubilee, reasoning that the ongoing dispute over Gibraltar makes it inappropriate to come for lunch.\u00a0 Although why she has given up the chance of a decent bit of banquet action makes no sense \u2013 does she really want a rocky peninsula filled with Marines, apes and offshore bookies?\u00a0 I\u2019d take the lunch&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And if anyone has seen the photos of our Queen on the \u2018duckmarine\u2019 at Albert Dock in Liverpool, you can almost hear her muttering <em>\u2018we are not amused&#8230;\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I suspect she\u2019ll be quite relieved when her Jubilee tour is over, and she can settle down with a fish finger sandwich and a glass of Pinot Grigio.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wine &amp; Cheese Evening<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been hosting these evenings for over a year now, many of you have been to one evening, a lot of you have been to two or three, but there are still some of you who haven\u2019t joined in the fun \u2013 we know you\u2019re just shy\u2026<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve not joined us, here\u2019s the lowdown.<\/p>\n<p>About every 5 weeks we host these evenings and we source a selection of 4 cheeses from our good friends at Norbiton Cheese, and we then attempt to match half a dozen wines to them.\u00a0 By \u2018attempt\u2019 I mean exactly that \u2013 we have a good idea what will go with what, but the proof is very much down to the tasting on the night itself \u2013 often wines we think will be brilliant lose a bit of their lustre, and the dark horse outsider that we put in for fun, actually turns out to be a thoroughbred winner (apologies for the clunky racing imagery).<\/p>\n<p>What I\u2019m trying to say is that we don\u2019t know the answers.\u00a0 Between the 14 of us on the night we come to conclusions, debate is lively, wine is spilt, crackers are ground into the floorboards and copious amounts of cheese are eaten.\u00a0 If this sounds like your idea of a great night out, then book your place today.<\/p>\n<p>The next event will be on <strong>Thursday 14<sup>th<\/sup> June at 8pm<\/strong>, here in the shop.\u00a0 Tickets cost <strong>\u00a315 per person<\/strong> and we have an <strong>absolute maximum of 12 spaces<\/strong> available.<\/p>\n<p>To reserve a spot, give us a call on<strong> 020 8944 5224<\/strong>, drop us an email or pop in to see us in the shop.<\/p>\n<p>As a quick note to those of you who have been before, we always endeavour to show different wines and cheeses at each event, and to date we haven\u2019t had any repeats, so you can feel safe that you will be trying something different should you choose to come again!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wines on show this weekend<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So whilst you\u2019re popping in to book your ticket for the 14<sup>th<\/sup>, might you be interested in tasting a quick drop of wine.\u00a0 This weekend, continuing our map-less tour of Italy, we have somehow managed to find ourselves back up in the North, in Piemonte no less.<\/p>\n<p>All dressed in white, we have <strong>Semplicemente Vino Bellotti Bianco 2011 \u2013 \u00a314.29. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now this is a fully paid up, card carrying, hairy toed, sandal wearing, hemp suited, biodynamic, unfiltered, low intervention, natural yeast, additive free, scrumptious bottle of wine.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s brilliant \u2013made from Cortese grapes (the grape more commonly associated with Gavi) we have a lovely fresh petal nose, a touch of lees (yeast) creaminess on the palate and a delicious ripe scrumpy apple finish.\u00a0 If you ever drank Thatcher\u2019s from the barrel then this is the wine for you&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Wearing the dark red suit with the velvet collar, we have <strong>Alasia Langhe Nebbiolo 2007 &#8211; \u00a310.89.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now one of the (numerous) secrets to making great wines that will age forever, is to also produce second wines that you can drink whilst waiting for the great wines to do their \u2018maturing\u2019 thing.<\/p>\n<p>Step up Langhe Nebbiolo.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ve bought the Barolo, and it\u2019s still a robust, tannic beast but you want something similar in style to drink now.\u00a0 The nose is sweetly aromatic with hints of roses, tobacco and spice.\u00a0 On the palate juicy cherry and berry fruits spring out, pursued by an earthy savoury finish with some firm but ripe tannins \u2013 it\u2019s not Barolo, but it\u2019s the next best thing, and it\u2019s ready now&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s just about that.\u00a0 Champions league final tomorrow, Kenny Dalglish out, Michael Owen out, the start of the Test series, RIP Fergie \u2013 just imagine how much sport comment there would have been in here if Alex had written it&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Salute!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers, It\u2019s been a bad week for Queens.
