{"id":173,"date":"2013-01-11T16:55:33","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T15:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=173"},"modified":"2013-01-11T16:55:33","modified_gmt":"2013-01-11T15:55:33","slug":"introducing-digby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=173","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Digby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clearly the big question this week isn\u2019t:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<em>why did I think it was a good idea to give up alcohol in January?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>who would be an Aston Villa fan?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>how did Marlon Samuels miss Shane Warne\u2019s head from that distance?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But is, in fact:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>who is the lady in the new David Bowie video?<\/em>\u00a0 Rumours that it is Iggy Pop seem, thus far, to be unfounded\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See it\u2019s not all about wine, just mostly.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on, we\u2019re now fully ensconced in the New Year, Christmas trees are sprawling on the pavements like drunken weebles and it\u2019s darned cold and grey.\u00a0 Only one thing for it, let\u2019s open some fizz!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Introducing Digby<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many moons ago Wayne and I ran a little wine shop in Clapham Old Town, up there in t\u2019big smoke.\u00a0 We had many good and loyal customers, some of whom became friends as time progressed and minutes spent chatting about wine in the shop often turned into hours spent having a few pints and ironing out the creases in the worlds fabric.<\/p>\n<p>Two of these characters were Trevor and Jason.\u00a0 Bright chaps, fun to talk to and fully excited about wine \u2013 but with sensible grown up jobs that paid mortgages, bought food and perhaps even sent them on holiday a couple of times a year.\u00a0 Fast forward a couple of years and where do we find them?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Sussex.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve only gone and got into the wine trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not the wine-trade of opening at 11 am, <em>-\u2018Cup of coffee, Wayne?\u2019 -\u2018Don\u2019t mind if I do Alex, and then we\u2019ll do some work shall we, there\u2019s some Burgundy to taste here and then perhaps, this afternoon, we should have some lunch\u2026\u2019 <\/em>variety, but more the <em>\u2018we\u2019re actually making our own English Sparkling Wine, it\u2019s called Digby, there\u2019s a Brut Vintage and a Rose Vintage and it\u2019s regularly kicking known names from the UK and Champagne into touch\u2019 <\/em>style.<\/p>\n<p>These two aspects of the trade would not exist without each other and with this in mind (and to shorten what has already become a long story), Trevor came to see us on Wednesday and left us a sample of each of their wines, the Brut and the Rose.\u00a0 It\u2019s brand new, I\u2019m not even sure if anyone is selling it yet, so we thought we\u2019d open it up on Saturday so that we can all try it together\u00a0 and get very excited at the launch of a brand new Fine English wine.\u00a0 Usual routine, glasses charged around midday so come in and have a sample and then hopefully we\u2019ll get it on the shelves very soon.<\/p>\n<p><em>Where were you when they launched Digby, Grandpa?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wine School<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is filling up.\u00a0 Places are still available, so if you want to learn more about what you like, what you don\u2019t like and perhaps even why this is so, sign up for this six week tasting-based course.\u00a0 As we always like to point out, you will have tasted 60 different wines by the middle of March (day 103) which is not a bad start to the year, and you\u2019ll have a pretty tough time keeping up that momentum!<\/p>\n<p>Join us, it\u2019s fun, informal, educational, and it breaks the weeks up nicely between the weekends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6 Week Wine School \u2013 commences Wednesday 30<sup>th<\/sup> January until Wednesday 13<sup>th<\/sup> March (no class 20<sup>th<\/sup> February for half term) \u2013 8pm until around 10pm &#8211; \u00a3150 per person.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further details attached.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Park Vintners Wine Club<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I know we mentioned this last week but we now have an addition.\u00a0 Alongside our normal monthly mixed six for \u00a350, we are now doing a quarterly mixed six for \u00a3100.\u00a0 Same rules apply, the wines are just more Saturday night dinner party rather than Tuesday night pizza, but having just finished writing the tasting notes even if I say so myself, it\u2019s a cracking selection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let us know if you want to find out more about these cases, how the wine club works, how we chose the wine, ask away.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">6 for 5 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the easier mechanics &#8211;
