{"id":168,"date":"2013-01-11T16:47:05","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T15:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=168"},"modified":"2013-01-11T16:47:05","modified_gmt":"2013-01-11T15:47:05","slug":"uncle-martins-sprouts-on-new-years-eve-28th-december-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=168","title":{"rendered":"Uncle Martins Sprouts on New Years Eve&#8230; 28th December 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n<p>Right, that\u2019s the family done for another year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The last time for a year when you will do back-to-back roast dinners for a dozen people.\u00a0 The last time so many vegetables will congregate on one table together \u2013 potatoes, sprouts (because Uncle Martin likes them), parsnips (because Uncle Martin doesn\u2019t like them), peas, carrots, red cabbage and of course broccoli for the kids&#8230; not to mention a turkey that weighs more than a case of wine, enough cranberry sauce to swim in, ditto Cumberland sauce, a loaf-load of bread sauce, meat stuffing, herb stuffing, pigs-in-blankets, sausage rolls, smoked salmon sandwiches, ham sandwiches, and of course twiglets.<\/p>\n<p>Pudding, sir?\u00a0 What would you prefer \u2013 Christmas pudding, mince pies, Christmas cake, ice cream, brandy butter, chocolate cake (again for the kids, but I\u2019m sure I saw mum with a plateful too), truffles, chocolate orange, chocolate Santas, Rudolphs, snowmen, bells, coins, and of course satsumas.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder we all need a drink.<\/p>\n<p>But we\u2019re not quite there yet \u2013 there\u2019s still New Year\u2019s Eve to clamber across before we look down the long, cold corridor that we call January.<\/p>\n<p>NYE is the time you spend with your friends, more roast meat, more potatoes, Christmas jumpers and slightly dirtier jokes.\u00a0 Same, same, but different.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve got ourselves out of bed and we\u2019re here to help.\u00a0 We\u2019re open today, tomorrow (10-8), Sunday for a four hour cameo performance (11-3), and of course Monday from 10-6.\u00a0 We\u2019re recommending magnums (we only have a few left but they do look the absolute whatsits on the dinner table).\u00a0 Plus, we\u2019ll open some wines tomorrow too, to help your decision making:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Southern Dawn Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Marlborough, New Zealand \u00a38.99 \u2013 <\/strong>fresh, fresh off the boat, we welcome the 2012 vintage of this favourite back on board.\u00a0 Typical NZ characteristics of passionfruit, citrus, nettles, cut grass and capsicum.\u00a0 Good acidity, clean fruits and a lively finish \u2013 exactly what that Sauvignon Blanc lover in your life yearns for!<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tamboerskloof Syrah 2007, Stellenbosch, South Africa \u00a319.49 \u2013 <\/strong>a friend of ours put us onto this wine a few months back, thanks Jack, but I have to confess we were initially a bit sceptical \u2013 we haven\u2019t been overwhelmed with requests for \u00a320 Syrahs from SA in the past, but Jack\u2019s the sort of bloke who you listen to when it comes to slightly obscure recommendations.\u00a0 A really elegant Syrah, the fact it has a bit of age has tempered the fruit nicely, adding a bit of savoury complexity to the deliciously long finish.\u00a0 I\u2019m having sirloin on NYE and this drop would certainly be a worthy partner.<\/p>\n<p>For those who like to learn more than they like to detox come and join our wine course.
