{"id":1506,"date":"2022-01-14T13:40:27","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T12:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1506"},"modified":"2022-01-14T13:40:27","modified_gmt":"2022-01-14T12:40:27","slug":"a-bit-over-it-january-sale-going-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1506","title":{"rendered":"A Bit Over It, January Sale, Going Tasting!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fellow Wine Lovers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week we\u2019re a bit over it, if we\u2019re honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we reach the gazillionth day of Covid dominated news we thought, rather than go off on some inarticulate rant that would bore you and just incense us more, we would instead&nbsp; have a quick flick through the dictionary, just to check that our understanding of certain words was the same as everyone else\u2019s.&nbsp; Here are some examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ENTITLED [\u026an\u02c8t\u028c\u026at(\u0259)ld] adjective &#8211; believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;they feel so entitled and think the world will revolve around them and the rules don\u2019t include them&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ARROGANT [\u02c8ar\u0259\u0261(\u0259)nt] adjective &#8211; having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one&#8217;s own importance or abilities.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;he&#8217;s arrogant and opinionated but not an expert&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>TENNIS PLAYER noun &#8211; an athlete who plays tennis<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cNo, Novak Djokovic is not a virologist or an, epidemiologist, he is a tennis player\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ISOLATION [\u028c\u026as\u0259\u02c8le\u026a\u0283(\u0259)n] noun &#8211;&nbsp; the process or fact of isolating or being isolated<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Mr Ramella, I\u2019ve tested positive for Covid so will need to isolate rather than do this interview\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>synonyms: separation \u00b7 segregation \u00b7 setting apart \u00b7 keeping apart \u00b7 quarantine \u00b7 insulation \u00b7 seclusion \u00b7 closeting \u00b7 protection \u00b7 shielding \u00b7 partitioning \u00b7 solitariness \u00b7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>PRIME MINISTER noun \u2013 the head of an elected government; the principal minister of a sovereign or state.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cYes, Boris Johnson really is our Prime Minister, the buck stops there!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>PARTY [\u02c8p\u0251\u02d0ti] noun &#8211; a social gathering of invited guests, typically involving eating, drinking, and entertainment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHi all, after what has been an incredibly busy period it would be nice to make the most of the lovely weather and have some socially distanced drinks in the No10 garden this evening. Please join us from 6pm and bring your own booze!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>synonyms: social gathering \u00b7 gathering \u00b7 social occasion \u00b7 social event \u00b7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having now checked, it seems we did have the correct understanding off all of these words, it was just some others who didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Mr Johnson has said he is limiting contact with other people, because a family member has tested positive, and will continue to do so until at least Tuesday \u2013 what a convenient time to start following the rules!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving back into the shop, there are deals to be done.&nbsp; By simply walking through the door and stating something along the lines of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2018I believe that, if I choose 6 bottles of wine, either all the same or 6 different, that may also include some of your sparkling wines but not your spirits, then I am ENTITLED to a 16.66% discount?&nbsp; Furthermore, this ENTITLEMENT is not limited to just one ISOLATED visit, I can actually use it as many times as I want until the end of January \u2013 perhaps I should have a PARTY?\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, you don\u2019t have to announce yourself in such a pompous manner, we\u2019d be very excited if you did however (might even give you a prize!), not to worry though, this entitlement is open to everyone, not just our pals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think Wayne explained it all last week but just to confirm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If <strong>you buy 6 bottles we\u2019ll only charge you for 5<\/strong> \u2013 which in maths terms is a 16.66% discount \u2013 and we do it mathematically rather than giving you the cheapest one free because, frankly, that\u2019s just not how we do things round here\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that\u2019s probably it for now \u2013 good news is we\u2019re already half way through the month, in 31 days time it\u2019ll be Valentines Day, half term will be in full swing and we\u2019ll be knee deep in the Six Nations whilst happily careening towards Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we might have a new Prime Minister?&nbsp; Let\u2019s see\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, we will be <strong>closed<\/strong> on Monday.&nbsp; It\u2019s the annual tasting of a key supplier and we\u2019re hoping to find some new wines to tantalise your taste buds&nbsp; as well as taste some vintage changes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Wine Lovers, This week we\u2019re a bit over it, if we\u2019re honest.
