In wine news we can report that Chateau Ang\u00e9lus has decided to withdraw from the St \u00c9milion classification system. \u201cWhile acknowledging the benefits the Saint-\u00c9milion classification has brought, Ch\u00e2teau Ang\u00e9lus has decided it is time to withdraw.\u201d<\/em> Drawn up every 10 years, it is due to be announced again this year amid reports that already two estates have plans to appoint lawyers. You may recall us reporting that following almost 10 years of court proceedings Ang\u00e9lus owner Hubert de B\u00f4uard was found guilty by a French court in November 2021 of having undue influence in setting the standards of the 2012 classification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We have stated before that if the lesser performing estates spent as much time concentrating on their vines and wines as they did in their lawyers office everyone could benefit. For the record, of the top four performing estates in St \u00c9milion, only Chateau Pavie remains in the classification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Whilst we\u2019re on the subject of wine, I\u2019d like to mention we\u2019re having a January Sale. Despite everyone\u2019s best efforts we just didn\u2019t manage to sell out before the year end. It\u2019s not for us in much the same way as Turkeys don\u2019t vote for Christmas.
