{"id":1242,"date":"2020-01-31T14:29:45","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T13:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1242"},"modified":"2020-01-31T14:29:45","modified_gmt":"2020-01-31T13:29:45","slug":"say-hello-wave-goodbye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parkvintners.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1242","title":{"rendered":"Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fellow Wine\nLovers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>31<sup>st<\/sup>\nJanuary \u2013 Guy Fawkes executed in 1606; Terry Wogan died in 2016; John Lydon was\nborn in 1956 and Justin Timberlake in 1981.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps most\nsignificantly though, in 2020, today marks the end of an era.&nbsp; A unique period in history, where there were\noccasional disappointments but, generally speaking, plenty of successes not to\nmention a greater understanding of how we can help each other out in a mutually\nbeneficial way\u2026 Yes, sadly, today is the very last day of the Park Vintners January\n6 for 5 sale \u2013 I know, it felt like I was going to mention something else\ndidn\u2019t it?&nbsp; However, I believe that this\nis the single most significant event happening today, not least because it is\nproperly the very last day, there is no transitioning until December for this\none I\u2019m afraid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But yes, you\u2019re right, we do need to\nacknowledge that elephant in the room<\/strong>&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having missed\nprevious deadlines I\u2019m not sure if it\u2019s really the 337<sup>th<\/sup> March, the\n306<sup>th<\/sup> April or the 123<sup>rd<\/sup> October 2019! &nbsp;Will there be a sense of \u2018And with that, we\u2019re\ngone\u2019 come 11pm this evening.&nbsp; Well,\nactually, no.&nbsp; Because we\u2019re not gone of\ncourse, that would be too easy.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having watched\nNigel Farage and Anne Widdecombe singing Auld Lang Syne whilst rather wishing\nthey\u2019d taken the opportunity to channel their inner-Almond by warbling <em>\u2018It was a kind of so-so love and I&#8217;m gonna\nmake sure it doesn&#8217;t happen again, you and I had to be the standing joke of the\nyear\u2026<\/em> <em>Say hello goodbye, say hello and wave goodbye \u2019 <\/em>and waving the Union Flag as they were\nejected from European Parliament on Wednesday, it reminded us of how very, very\ngrown up this whole farago has been from start to not-quite finish.&nbsp; And this is before we mention Heather\nAnderson\u2019s 4 day cameo for probably more money than you and I earnt his week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Life begins at February<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But tomorrow is\nSaturday, it\u2019s February, good sense and decorum will return, dry January will\nbe over, veganuarists will hit the steaks and put their leather shoes back on,\nthe transfer window will be shut and the Rugby Six Nations is on the\ntelly.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, as ever,\nthere\u2019s been plenty of banter between rugby fans over the last week or so, I never\ncan quite understand why much of it isn\u2019t considered to be racist but then I\u2019m\nthe wrong sort of woke, I think.&nbsp; Anyway,\nWayne tells me that England should win the lot, which means they\u2019ll come\nfifth.&nbsp; He also tells me that France have\na great young team so should win the lot.&nbsp;\nIreland are looking dangerous and, as such, should win the lot.&nbsp; Wales have a point to prove, aptly\ndemonstrated by not picking Rees-Zammit and sticking North in the centres, so\nare obviously very confident and should win the lot.&nbsp; Scotland, well Scotland can beat anyone on\ntheir day, so should win the lot.&nbsp; Italy,\nlike Scotland, have never won the Six Nations so it must be their turn and as a\nconsequence should win the lot.&nbsp; Place\nyour bets, you heard it here first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019d rather have a cup of tea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not suggesting\nthat there is any science to this at all, just whimsy.&nbsp; Apparently PG Tips and pals are no longer as\npopular as they used to be.&nbsp; Sales are\ndown as these sorts of tea are apparently falling out of favour with the public\n\u2013 so if people aren\u2019t drinking tea, what are they doing?&nbsp; Anyone familiar with the rest of the Boy\nGeorge quote from above will perhaps come to the same conclusion as us \u2013 expect\na baby boom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019d rather have a glass of wine and a\nhunk of cheese\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026. if this\nsounds like you then you\u2019re in luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday 13th February \u2013 Cheese &amp;\nWine Tasting here at the shop at 8pm. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost is still \u00a320 per person <\/strong>\u2013 currently we have plenty of space, in\nfact all the spaces, so if you fancy a night out that\u2019s cheaper then Valentines\nbut could still vaguely count, sign up now!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019d rather have a glass of wine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sensible &#8211; how\nabout one of the wines we\u2019ve got on tasting this weekend? You may remember we\nmentioned a link-up between Argentine producers, Pulenta Estate and Wimbledon\nHockey club last year, so we thought we would open a couple of their wines this\nweekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In white we have\n<strong>Pulenta Estate Chardonnay 2016 (\u00a314.99)<\/strong>\na perfect partner to some fish pie with its tropical fruit core, peach and hazelnut\nnotes and crisp citrus finish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the red we\nhave the <strong>Pulenta La Flor Malbec 2018\n(\u00a315.69<\/strong>), up here at 980m the grapes develop great colour and give us full\nflavoured wine with soft tannins and a certain elegance.
